ROCKFORD (WREX) — After years of sitting untouched, the owner of the Midway Theater in downtown Rockford says work to renovate it is underway.

The century-old theater used to be filled with hundreds of people. But what some call a Rockford treasure has become dilapidated after years of vacancy, a fire, change in ownership and a roof collapse.

Peter Crane, who owns the building, wants to remodel.

“We are working with our design professionals to put some plans together to repair the inside.”

Coming on tonight on 13 News at 6, reporter Megan Hedstrom takes you inside the theater and tells you what plans Crane has to restore it.
